What kind of garden do you like? Google images of each one and collect the pictures of the ones you like…no matter how many or varieties. If you print them off, circle the things you like in the picture whether it be a gazebo, pergola, planter etc. This will determine or start a theme.

  • Herb and veggie

Consider things like :

  • Color preference

  • Average time you want to spend in the garden each week, 1-4, 2-6, 4-8, 6-12 or more

  • what is your budget for a year?

  • what do you want it to look like in the winter? Look up google photos

  • what do you want it to look like in the spring? Look up google photos

  • what do you want it to look like in the summer? Look up google photos

  • what do you want it to look like in the fall? Look up google photos

  • do you want to attract birds?

  • are there views you would like to keep or block?

  • do you want to use it for entertaining, gardening, swimming, relaxing, cooking and dining?

  • do you have outdoor pets and if so how many and what kind?

  • do you have kids and if so how old and how many?

  • how long to you plan to live in this house and will you be selling or using it as a rental?

  • what do you want it to look like at night? Google night lighting

  • are you standing with your neighbors?

  • what is your time line for having a mature landscape? How patient are you?

  • would you call yourself a symmetrical or asymmetrical person
